Course description

The course provides comprehensive training on the fundamentals of cybersecurity, addressing concepts and protection techniques in a real environment. The program covers basic cybersecurity principles, threats, and vulnerabilities, as well as defensive measures such as the use of firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, and VPNs. Students will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge through practical exercises and labs, focusing on secure network configuration, threat monitoring, and attack management.

The course includes a substantial practical component, allowing participants to apply theoretical knowledge in real laboratory scenarios.

Main Topics

Day 1/2: Cybersecurity Fundamentals

  • Introduction to Cybersecurity:
    • Fundamental Principles: CIA (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability), AAA, Security by Design, Defense in Depth
    • Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Risks
    • Blue Team & Red Team
    • Main Cyber Attacks: Social Engineering, Phishing, Malware, Ransomware, Stealer
    • Monitoring and Defense Tools
  • Network Essentials:
    • The ISO/OSI Stack
    • Operation of Main Network Protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
    • Some Vulnerabilities in Network Protocols
    • Network Devices: Switching, VLAN and Trunking, Routing, Dynamic Routing Protocols, SDN
  • Firewalls and Intrusion Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS):
    • Configuration and Operation
  • VPN and Encryption:
    • IPsec Protocol, TLS, and Concepts of Symmetric and Asymmetric Encryption
  • Laboratory:
    • Configuration of a Basic Network and Network Devices
    • Implementation of a Secure VPN

Day 3/4/5: Exercises with Cyber Range

  • Cyber Range:
    • Practical Exercises to Simulate Real Cyber Attacks and Test Defenses
    • Active and Reactive Defense Techniques
    • Use of Tools for Threat Detection and Management in a Simulated Environment

No specific prerequisites are required, but a basic understanding of networks and computing concepts is useful. Familiarity with the basic operation of network devices and protocols is recommended.
