Designing Mobility

Tough Interface: Human-Machine Interaction for Future-Proof Innovation

Course description

The industrial world linked to Automotive is crossing the frontiers of new mobility, which includes innovative products and technologies and opens up to new horizons of services. The courses of the “Mobility Academy Light Edition” are offered to participants as individual training events: connecting them together can become a personalized path to enhance and extend the skills of professionals and technicians to other fields and new forms of technologies and applications.

Today, interface design is no longer just a matter of displays and buttons but requires a design approach that naturally and intuitively integrates the user and their needs. An approach that makes HMI a central component of everyday life.

The course is presented as a narrative that illustrates and examines the fundamental principles of human-machine interaction applied to various contexts: from automotive to earth-moving machines, to cobots and smart appliances.

Through real case histories and a practical approach, participants will learn the fundamental principles of interface design, with concrete examples of how HMI can improve products and services. During the course, we will explore technological scenarios, test techniques for redesigning existing interfaces, address the issue of users’ cognitive workload in complex interactions, and discuss the future prospects of the sector.

The course is created by CIM with the contribution of:

Main Topics

Lesson 1. Introduction to Human-Machine Interaction (HMI): A Catalog of Innovations in Key Sectors

An introduction to the major revolutions in HMI, through a catalog of projects that have transformed the way we interact with machines in key sectors

Lesson 2. Anatomy of an HMI – Dismantle and Rebuild Better

We will “dismantle” an interface into its components to understand its structure and identify areas for improvement. This approach will allow us to see how each element can be optimized to better meet user needs. We will examine the main stages of HMI design.

Lesson 3. Distracted, Who? Designing Attention to Survive the World

When the interface is designed to manage user attention and prevent human errors

Lesson 4. What Future? Visions and Challenges in Tomorrow’s Interaction

The main innovation trends in HMI that will characterize future life, emerging technologies, challenges to face, and the opportunities they present

Participant profile

Open to All: Citizens, Businesses, Public Administration, Researchers, Students, and Teachers

Objectives

The course objectives are to learn the rules of interaction, understand the principles of interface design with attention to both technology and people, and to know the potential of future technologies.
