5G For Factory (5GFF) is a project dedicated to the application of 5G technology and software/IT services to support the digital transformation of the manufacturing sector.
In particular, 5GFF chooses the Additive Manufacturing supply chain to experiment with the potential of 5G by providing a factory network optimized for low latency, extremely high bandwidth, QoS, sensor technology, as well as reconfiguration flexibility and security. These features are also enabled by the simultaneous development of Edge Computing infrastructures necessary to exploit the indicated performance at the application level.
The use case experimented by 5GFF offers new possibilities to obtain information and data from the machines of a production line and trigger actions regardless of the location of operators and machines.
This improves production flexibility, machine availability, overall equipment effectiveness and efficiency, and opens new operational scenarios related to remote human-machine interaction.
The application leverages advanced Additive Manufacturing technologies (Prima Industrie) present in the CIM4.0 Pilot Line, sensor/IoT, edge computing, and cloud-native applications (Reply) supported by next-generation 5G connectivity (TIM).
