Today, there are many solutions, devices, and sensors available to track events related to Worker Safety and Plant Security within the Industry 4.0 context; however, these solutions do not guarantee the levels of redundancy, security, and interoperability necessary in the event of service disruptions due to adverse emergencies (e.g., terrorist attacks, cyberattacks, pandemic emergencies…)
The BestSafe4Iren™ proposal addresses this need by extending the IoT devices for Worker Safety 4.0 installed in the IREN plants in Turin with a LoRa wireless infrastructure and a new generation DLT patent capable of certifying data from field sensors in a standardized and anonymized manner on blockchain networks, ensuring the appropriate level of neutrality necessary for operational, regulatory, insurance, and legal use.
Conceived by the Innovative SME Smart Track S.r.l. of Genoa, the project is completed by the large enterprise user IREN and the subcontractor OdR CSP – Innovation in ICT s.c.ar.l (also referred to as “CSP”), which enable the pilot to be operational from TRL 6 to TRL 8.
The technological system proposed to evolve from TRL 6 to TRL 8 during the BestSafe4Iren™ project aims to add versatility and adaptability to different operational conditions, focusing on the protection and safety of workers by ensuring uniform safety conditions, regardless of the specific site where they operate.
In particular, the BestSafe4Iren™ proposal aims to address the socioeconomic context through a new extended ecosystem for tracking data and events related to Plant Security and Personnel Safety, capable of:
· Extending the IoT platform provided by the partner Smart Track, currently being tested at the IREN TRM plant in Turin and currently limited to operating on cellular networks (outdoor) and Wi-Fi networks (indoor), with an additional down & upstream channel based on the LoRa network to better reach IREN Workers in mobility throughout the City of Turin;
· Integrating, based on the BestSafe™ patent (Blockchain Enabled Streaming of Trusted Safety data) from the partner Smart Track, access to the DLT IoTA network;
· Developing new interoperability & privacy by design protocols for the correct distributed, standardized, and anonymized tracking of events related to Plant Security and Worker Safety to certify the events in a “notarized” and “impartial” manner as necessary for legal, insurance, regulatory, and/or health purposes.
