Home / Case studies / TITAN: Thermal comfort quality gate manufacturing
In the thermal equipment manufacturing sector, product quality is essential to ensure the safety and efficiency of domestic and industrial systems. At the Ariston plant in Osimo, quality control of boiler components is conducted in-line, requiring rapid and reliable verification of the conformity and integrity of parts. Simultaneously, at the Genga plant, it is crucial to monitor the sealing of boilers, a traditionally complex operation subject to prolonged times.
In the TITAN project, advanced computer vision systems have been implemented to automate quality control at both the Osimo and Genga plants. In Osimo, industrial cameras integrate artificial vision software capable of real-time inspection of boiler parts along the production line, identifying the presence/absence of components during assembly. In Genga, with the assistance of Accenture, a dedicated vision system has been developed for checking the sealing of boilers, allowing for accurate and non-invasive analysis of the component’s condition during immersion.
The introduction of the automated system has led to a significant improvement in the precision of quality control. The elimination of manual visual inspection has significantly reduced the physical and cognitive load on operators, improving working conditions and decreasing the margins for human error. Furthermore, the increased accuracy in defect identification has reduced the number of undetected defective parts, avoiding unnecessary waste and scrap, with a positive impact both economically and environmentally.
