Since 1989, he has been responsible for the “Future Mobility and Europe” Department at the Institute for Innovation and Technology (VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH), which supports technical developments for future mobility solutions (electric mobility and autonomous and interconnected driving, etc.) with programmatic and strategic activities and develops new forms of European cooperation. Since 2010, Wolfgang Gessner has also been responsible for the “Future Technologies and Europe” Department, which manages government research and development programs in the transport sector, and he is the Director of the European Technology Platform on Smart Systems Integration – EPoSS.
