Composite Research Ltd. is an innovative SME. CoRe’s core business is based on product innovation and the development processes of the same. Within its operations, it offers a wide range of activities in the chemical-engineering field as well as technological and material research. In the case of the Patch Madflex® project, the target market is the repair of the European gas distribution network. The idea stems from CoRe’s attention to environmental and social issues, and from the need to address an important problem such as methane gas dispersion along transport lines. When we talk about high supply costs, we need to focus on why the required supply quantity is so high. Similarly, when today we hear about climate change, we should also turn our attention to the transport line of such an important essential commodity. Significant losses have in fact been detected that impact at an economic and social as well as environmental level. The market today offers solutions with a low application range that reduce the dispersion problem but increase costs and inconvenience.
Patch Madflex® acts as a sort of patch on the damage to the pipeline, does not require interventions and can be applied in maximum safety as it has no polluting chemical components. The reduced timeframes and ease of application mean that repair costs decrease while maintaining quality and durability. The scenario in which the project operates sees various players in the field which, however, according to laboratory results, do not guarantee the resolution of critical issues.
CIM has developed an innovative system for pipeline repair through the use of Plant Simulation. It was in fact possible to design a new production line layout, as well as simulate, test and validate a new production process for the product. This made it possible to optimize times, number of resources required and operational life of the machinery.
Patch Madflex® qualifies as innovative for its application methods. With the use of Patch Madflex®, costs and times are drastically reduced. The product does not require an interruption of supply to carry out the repair and allows personnel to perform the repair in a single intervention. Patch Madflex® is also usable on any type of pipeline regardless of the type of material it is made of and its size.
